SOIL:

Château de Gicon, perched at the top of a rocky promontory and built on the site of a Celtic village, then one of a Gallo-Roman villa, is the property of laudun Chusclan Vignerons since 1973. Used since ancient times as a fortress of defence and control of the Ceze valley of the Rhone, the Bishops of Uzès were the first known owners, followed by the Benedictines of Saint Saturnin Port. Governed by Fage family, Lords de Bagnols, the fortress has long housed a garrison of 300 people. Remarkable high point overlooking the Rhône, Château de Gicon offers a panoramic view of four French Provinces: Provence, Languedoc, and Auvergne Dauphiné. Destroyed by order of Cardinal Richelieu, it housed the King Saint Louis en route to Aigues-Mortes and 7th crusade.

On September 15th 1984, leases 12 acres were awarded to four young producers harvesting responsible for renewal of the vineyard castle, challenged by the culture method of restructuring land suitable site. The fortress has also been for several years the topic of a major rehabilitation program that makes the heart of the vineyard Chusclan and major tourist site near Bagnols sur Ceze.

TASTING AND FOOD MATCH:

Pretty cherry robe with a deep bright and attractive reflect. The nose of this wine offers a sweet aniseed freshness and a great purity of fruit, with notes of very ripen raspberries and strawberries. The tannins are soft and fleshy and the mouth continues with notes of sweet spices and pepper. It will sublimate a rare roast beef accompanied by melting fried potatoes.
